Green Bay, Wisconsin – Drivers across northeast Wisconsin should prepare for slick roads Monday morning as light snow spreads into the region overnight, creating travel concerns during the start of the work and school day.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a weak storm system will bring a swath of light snow into the area late tonight, with snowfall becoming steadier after midnight. Snow is expected to peak between 6 a.m. and noon Monday before tapering off by the afternoon hours.
Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected across much of north-central and northeast Wisconsin, including Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Wausau, and surrounding communities. While snowfall rates are expected to remain light, even modest accumulation could lead to snow-covered and slippery roads during the Monday morning commute.
Forecasters note there is a 60 to 80 percent chance of snowfall exceeding one inch in a narrow corridor from north-central into northeast Wisconsin. As snow winds down Monday afternoon, a brief period of spotty freezing drizzle is possible, which could create additional slick spots on untreated surfaces.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time Monday morning. Checking road conditions before heading out is recommended, as slick conditions may develop quickly overnight. Light snow impacts should improve later Monday as precipitation exits the region.
