La Crosse, WI – Severe thunderstorms could develop late Monday afternoon across Wisconsin, with the greatest concern arriving during the evening commute as storms bring the potential for large hail and damaging winds.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, scattered severe storms may form between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday, with the highest risk centered across western and central Wisconsin, including La Crosse, Eau Claire, and areas along the I-90 corridor. While storm development is not guaranteed, any storms that do form could quickly intensify.

Primary hazards include large hail and wind gusts strong enough to down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages. A few tornadoes and locally heavy rainfall are also possible if conditions become more favorable.

By Tuesday, the severe threat is expected to shift farther south into parts of Iowa and southern Wisconsin, including areas near Madison and the Wisconsin-Illinois border, with another round of afternoon and evening storms possible.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and monitor alerts, especially late Monday. Secure outdoor items and be prepared to move indoors quickly if warnings are issued.

This developing storm pattern will continue into Tuesday evening, with additional updates likely as timing and storm intensity become clearer.
