La Crosse, Wis. – Drivers in western Wisconsin should brace for patchy fog this morning, reducing visibility along I-90 and rural highways. Conditions are expected to clear as the sun rises, but commuters should allow extra travel time and use low beams.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, dense fog could persist through early morning before giving way to sunshine and warmer temperatures. Highs will climb into the mid-80s today, signaling an unseasonably warm start to the final days of September.

By Wednesday, October 1, residents will notice partly sunny skies with highs near 79, a mild and calm beginning to October. Increasing clouds Tuesday night will give way to cooler, more comfortable afternoons, with light winds adding to the fall-like feel.

The real shift arrives late in the week. Friday brings a 20 percent chance of showers, followed by a higher threat of rain and thunderstorms Saturday. Localized downpours may slow travel and affect outdoor events, particularly along I-90 and surrounding county roads.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of clear weather through Thursday for any outdoor projects or travel. Keep rain gear ready for the weekend as unsettled conditions develop.

Warnings or additional advisories may be issued if storms intensify heading into Saturday.
