Green Bay, WI — Northeast Wisconsin residents should prepare for a dangerous weekend as freezing rain, thunderstorms, and snow are forecast to impact travel, beginning early Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a wintry mix will move in overnight Friday and intensify Saturday through Sunday, bringing hazardous road conditions along key routes including US-41 and I-43. Light freezing rain and sleet will begin Saturday morning before transitioning to heavier precipitation later in the day. Travel could become treacherous, especially in the Fox Valley and northern counties.

Saturday’s high will reach 44°F, but overnight lows will fall to 26°F, allowing ice to accumulate. Thunderstorms are likely by Saturday night, and some could produce hail. Rain and snow will persist through Sunday, with the worst weather expected Saturday night and early Sunday. Fast runoff could trigger minor flooding along rivers and streams into early next week.

Residents should avoid nonessential travel and check the latest road conditions through 511 Wisconsin. Drivers are urged to reduce speed and increase following distance.

Looking ahead, Monday brings a chance of snow with a high near 39°F. Rain and snow will return Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by drier conditions Thursday with highs in the upper 40s.
