Green Bay, WI – A dangerous and long-duration ice storm continues to impact much of central and northern Wisconsin, with an Ice Storm Warning in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, the warning covers more than a dozen counties, including Marathon, Oneida, Wood, Shawano, Portage, Florence, and Door. Ice accumulations are expected to range from one-quarter inch to as much as eight-tenths of an inch in areas like Oneida, Forest, and Marinette counties.
The heavy icing is likely to snap tree limbs and weigh down power lines, leading to widespread and potentially long-lasting outages. Wind gusts up to 35 mph in Door County may compound the damage.
In Taylor County and areas north of I-94, snow and sleet could mix in, with up to an inch of accumulation, further complicating road conditions. Officials strongly advise against travel, especially overnight and into early Sunday.
Residents are urged to stay indoors, keep flashlights, food, and water ready, and avoid contact with downed power lines. For road conditions, travelers can dial 511 or check state transportation websites.
