Fond du Lac, Wis. – Drivers across east-central Wisconsin could face slick roads early Wednesday as a wintry mix moves through overnight, bringing light snow and a thin glaze of ice just in time for the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT Wednesday for Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Green Lake, and Marquette counties.
Forecasters expect mixed precipitation, with up to 1 inch of snow and a light glaze of ice developing overnight. Even small ice accumulations can make roads, bridges, and overpasses slippery, especially during the early morning hours.
Cities including Fond du Lac, Plymouth, Sheboygan Falls, Oostburg, Princeton, Berlin, Montello, and Markesan may see the most noticeable impacts as temperatures hover near freezing.
The timing of the system could affect commuters traveling along key regional routes including Interstate 41, Highway 23, and Highway 151, where untreated surfaces may quickly become slick.
Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check Wisconsin 511 for real-time road conditions before leaving home.
The advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday, and road conditions could remain hazardous through the late morning hours as temperatures slowly warm.
