Sheboygan, Wis. – Beachgoers along Lake Michigan in Sheboygan County are being urged to stay out of the water as dangerous rip currents and waves up to five feet are expected through Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, a High Swim Risk remains in effect from 7 p.m. Monday until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Breezy southerly winds of 15 to 20 mph will fuel hazardous waves, creating life-threatening conditions for swimmers, particularly near piers and breakwalls.

The most dangerous conditions will be along Sheboygan County beaches, while neighboring counties including Ozaukee and Milwaukee face a Moderate Swim Risk. Officials warn residents and visitors not to underestimate the strength of Lake Michigan currents, which can sweep swimmers away from shore quickly.

Local authorities recommend avoiding all water activity during the advisory and keeping a safe distance from the shoreline. Residents are also encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.

The high swim risk will remain in place until Tuesday evening, with the potential for additional advisories if winds and waves persist into midweek.
