Wisconsin — The first true bite of winter greets northeast Wisconsin this morning, where wet roads glisten under steady snow and whipping winds. Along Highway 41 and I-43, visibility can drop sharply as bursts of snow swirl across the fields, signaling a long-awaited — if unwelcome — winter transition.

The National Weather Service in Green Bay has issued both a Winter Weather Advisory and a Wind Advisory through this evening. Snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected in most areas, though isolated heavier bursts could briefly push totals higher north of Green Bay. Winds up to 50 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow, especially across open stretches from Shawano to Manitowoc.

Travelers heading out for Thanksgiving plans should slow down and allow extra time, particularly across rural highways and bridge crossings. Reduced visibility and slick roads could impact both morning and afternoon travel.

Thanksgiving Day itself looks calmer, with sunshine and a high near 32°F — a welcome break before the next round of winter weather. Another system moves in late Friday into Saturday, bringing a 70–90% chance of accumulating snow across much of eastern Wisconsin. While totals remain uncertain, early models suggest the potential for 2–5 inches, especially north of Appleton and Green Bay.

Behind that storm, temperatures plunge into the teens and single digits, signaling a major Arctic front building across the northern U.S. early next week. For now, holiday travelers should prepare for changing weather and monitor local advisories — Wisconsin’s early winter season has officially arrived.
