GREEN BAY, Wis. — A soft wind drifts across the Fox River this morning, carrying the scent of damp leaves and the first real bite of fall. After a few unsettled days, northeast Wisconsin is heading into its coldest stretch of the season so far, with frost likely by Thursday morning — and hints that the region’s first fall freeze may not be far behind.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, scattered showers will continue Tuesday and Wednesday as a weak front sweeps through the Great Lakes. While rainfall totals stay light, gusty west winds up to 25 mph could make the air feel brisk. Temperatures Tuesday will reach the low 50s before slipping into the low 40s by evening.

By Wednesday, clouds will break and cooler air will rush in from the northwest. Highs hover near 50°F, but lows drop sharply into the 30s, setting the stage for the first widespread frost across rural areas Thursday morning. Sensitive plants, late vegetables, and outdoor décor should be protected before sunset Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday bring a crisp, calm setup — bright sunshine, light winds, and frosty mornings followed by highs in the low 50s. The weekend looks dry and pleasant, with temperatures rebounding slightly into the upper 50s Saturday and near 60°F by Sunday.

For now, Wisconsin’s fall transition is in full swing — wet roads early, silver lawns later, and that unmistakable sign that winter’s slow approach has begun.
