Milwaukee, WI – Slippery roads could develop within hours across eastern Wisconsin as light freezing rain and drizzle move through during the early Thursday morning commute, creating a risk for icy travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, light rain, freezing rain, or drizzle will persist through roughly 5 to 8 a.m. Thursday, mainly northeast of the I-90/94 corridor. Air and surface temperatures hovering near 32 degrees are making it difficult to distinguish precipitation type, increasing the chance of a thin glaze forming on untreated surfaces.
The highest risk zone includes Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, and Sheboygan, where elevated roads, bridges, and overpasses along I-41 and I-43 could become slick. Milwaukee and areas farther southwest may see lower chances, but isolated icy spots cannot be ruled out.
Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time, especially during the morning commute. Even a light glaze can create hazardous conditions on untreated pavement.
Conditions should gradually improve after 8 a.m. Thursday as temperatures rise slightly above freezing, reducing the icing threat, though drivers should remain cautious for lingering slick spots.
