Green Bay, Wisconsin – Drivers across northern and central Wisconsin are being urged to prepare for dangerously slick roads as freezing rain spreads into the region Monday night, setting up a hazardous Tuesday morning commute. A mix of freezing rain, sleet, and light snow is expected to coat roads, sidewalks, and bridges with ice, making travel difficult from late Monday evening through midday Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for much of northeast and central Wisconsin. Ice accumulations between one-tenth and two-tenths of an inch are possible, along with up to an inch of snow. The most dangerous conditions are expected overnight into early Tuesday, when surface temperatures remain below freezing.

Counties under the advisory include Langlade, Menominee, Oconto, Marinette, Marathon, Portage, Wood, Lincoln, Shawano, Waupaca, and Waushara. Cities such as Antigo, Wausau, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Shawano, Crivitz, and Peshtigo could see untreated roads become especially slick. Wisconsin DOT crews are expected to monitor conditions, but drivers should be prepared for icy stretches, particularly on secondary roads and rural highways.

Residents are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and avoid unnecessary trips overnight if possible. Pedestrians should also use caution, as sidewalks and driveways may become ice-covered. Additional advisories or extensions remain possible as conditions evolve through Tuesday.
