Light snow drifts across the Milwaukee skyline this morning, blending into a misty glaze on parked cars and windshields. Roads are slick, and visibility remains patchy — a preview of the messy mix expected to linger through midweek as winter tightens its grip on southern Wisconsin.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, light snow will transition to freezing drizzle across east and south-central Wisconsin today. While accumulations stay light — generally under an inch — even a thin glaze could make untreated roads dangerously slick through the Tuesday morning and evening commute. Drivers should reduce speed and allow extra braking distance, particularly along I-94 and I-43 corridors.

Meteorologists say the wintry mix will taper to light snow Wednesday, followed by a plunge in temperatures. Highs near 32°F midweek will fall sharply into the low 20s by Thursday, with wind chills dipping into the single digits. By the weekend, Arctic air will deepen across the state, sending “feels-like” temperatures as low as -15°F to -25°F during early mornings.

The bitter air marks the start of a longer cold stretch that could persist through December 17. Snow showers remain possible through the period, especially near Lake Michigan and across central Wisconsin, where lake-effect flurries may redevelop under strong northwest flow.
