La Crosse, WI – Dense fog is blanketing southwest Wisconsin Monday morning, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less and creating hazardous travel conditions. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m., with drivers urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and increase following distance on area roadways.

The National Weather Service warns that travel could remain challenging through the morning commute, especially along major routes in and around La Crosse. As fog lifts later Monday, temperatures will reach a high near 40 degrees, with winds gusting up to 25 mph in the afternoon.

A more significant weather system is expected to arrive Tuesday, bringing accumulating snow late in the day. Snow will likely begin after 5 p.m. and continue into Tuesday night, with forecasts predicting 1 to 3 inches. This will impact the Tuesday evening commute, especially on untreated roads. Winds will pick up to 15 mph during snowfall, further reducing visibility and creating slick driving conditions.

By midweek, temperatures will take a sharp plunge. Wednesday night’s low is forecast to hit 11 degrees, marking the coldest stretch of the week. Highs will remain below freezing through Thursday, with snow chances lingering into late Thursday night.

Residents should prepare for changing weather conditions and potential travel hazards through midweek. Drivers are encouraged to check forecasts regularly, allow extra time for travel, and keep an emergency kit in their vehicles as temperatures drop.

Stay alert as dense fog clears and winter weather returns to southwest Wisconsin this week.
