Green Bay, Wisconsin – Dangerous swimming conditions are gripping Lake Michigan beaches in Kewaunee and Manitowoc counties, with the National Weather Service urging everyone to stay out of the water until at least Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect due to high waves and powerful currents expected to last through 10 p.m. Thursday. The warning specifically targets Cresent Beach and City of Kewaunee Beach in Kewaunee County, as well as Point Beach, Neshotah Beach, and Red Arrow Beach in Manitowoc County.

The risk is highest for swimmers and anyone venturing near piers, where strong currents could sweep people into deeper water and high waves may catch even experienced swimmers off guard. Local authorities recommend keeping children and pets away from the shoreline and urge beachgoers to avoid piers entirely.

Lake Michigan’s summer surf can turn dangerous quickly, even for strong swimmers. If you spot someone in trouble, call 911—do not enter the water. Stay informed on local advisories and look for warning flags before heading to the beach.

Beach hazards may extend into Thursday night. Updates will be posted as conditions change.
