Milwaukee, Wisconsin – A dangerous stretch of summer heat is gripping southern Wisconsin as heat index values soar into the upper 90s through Saturday, with relief not expected until Sunday. Sweltering humidity and south winds will combine to push afternoon “feels-like” temperatures to 95 degrees or higher in cities like Janesville, Milwaukee, Fond du Lac, and Kenosha, creating serious risks for outdoor activities and travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, the region’s heat index will remain in the middle to upper 90s both Friday and Saturday afternoons. Cities across southern Wisconsin—especially Janesville, Fond du Lac, and Sheboygan—will experience the highest heat index values between noon and 6 p.m. Cooling will be limited overnight, keeping humidity high and offering little relief, particularly for those without air conditioning.
Drivers and outdoor workers should plan for frequent breaks and drink plenty of fluids. Those in Monroe, Dodgeville, and West Bend should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak hours and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. The risk of heat illness rises rapidly with these conditions, especially for the elderly, children, and anyone with pre-existing health concerns.
The worst of the heat is expected to break by late Saturday, though above-average warmth will linger into Sunday. Stay tuned for additional advisories as conditions evolve.
