Green Bay, Wisconsin – Severe thunderstorms will threaten central and northern Wisconsin late this afternoon and evening, with the greatest risk for damaging winds, torrential rain, and isolated tornadoes from 3 p.m. until midnight tonight. Power outages, flooded roadways, and dangerous travel conditions are possible, especially across the Highway 29 corridor and northward.

According to the National Weather Service Green Bay, rounds of storms will move through the state throughout the day, but the main window for severe weather stretches from mid-afternoon through midnight. A “Slight Risk” for severe storms covers cities including Eau Claire, Wausau, Rhinelander, Rice Lake, and Superior, where winds could gust up to 60 mph and localized flooding may impact urban and low-lying areas. A tornado cannot be ruled out, especially in the northern counties.

Heavy rain and gusty winds may also affect La Crosse, Tomah, and Portage. Morning storms are likely to bring strong gusts and heavy downpours, but conditions are expected to worsen later in the day. Residents in Madison, Green Bay, Oshkosh, and Milwaukee should prepare for rapid changes in weather conditions and monitor local alerts.

Stay off the roads during storms if possible, charge electronic devices in advance, and keep multiple ways to receive warnings at home and outdoors. If outdoors, seek sturdy shelter as storms approach, and never drive through flooded streets.

Storm threats are expected to taper after midnight, but further watches or warnings could be issued. Stay alert for updates as conditions evolve into the overnight hours.
