Green Bay, Wisconsin – Snow mixed with sleet will spread across central and north-central Wisconsin after midnight, coating highways with up to 6 inches before the Friday midday hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight until noon CST Friday for Marathon, Portage, Wood, Waushara, Langlade, Florence, Forest, Menominee, Shawano, Waupaca, Northern Marinette, and Northern Oconto counties. Total snow and sleet accumulations are expected to range between 3 and 6 inches.

Snow will overspread Wausau, Stevens Point, Marshfield, and Wisconsin Rapids during the overnight hours, with sleet mixing in at times late tonight into early Friday. The mix could compact snow on roadways, creating slick and icy stretches, especially on bridges and overpasses. Gusty bursts of precipitation may reduce visibility along Interstate 39, Highway 51, and Highway 29 during the morning commute.

Rural roads from Antigo to Crandon and Shawano may become snow-covered quickly if snowfall rates increase toward daybreak. Crews will treat major highways, but secondary roads could remain slippery into late morning.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check 511 before traveling. The advisory continues until noon Friday, with gradual improvement expected during the afternoon as precipitation tapers.
