Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Drivers across southern Wisconsin could see rapidly changing road conditions beginning tonight as a multi-stage storm brings ice, rain, and eventually heavy snow with strong winds by Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Sunday for areas mainly north of Interstate 94, including Sauk, Dodge, and Ozaukee counties. Snow will develop first before transitioning to sleet and freezing rain overnight, creating slick travel on untreated roads.

Temperatures will climb Sunday morning, allowing precipitation to change to rain across much of southern Wisconsin. Periods of moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms may move west to east around midday Sunday, especially south of the I-94 corridor through cities such as Janesville, Kenosha, and Racine.

Conditions will shift quickly again Sunday evening as colder air returns behind the system. Rain is expected to transition to moderate or heavy snow across the region Sunday night, with snowfall continuing through much of Monday.

Forecasters say many areas across southern and eastern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Fond du Lac, have a high probability of receiving at least 4 inches of snow, with some northern areas seeing potential totals exceeding 6 inches. Winds could also strengthen Sunday night with gusts between 40 and 45 mph, producing blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility.

The combination of accumulating snow, strong winds, and falling temperatures may create hazardous travel conditions for the Monday morning commute across the Milwaukee metro and surrounding counties. Residents should monitor updated advisories as the storm evolves through the weekend.
