Duluth, Minnesota – Lake effect snow will continue to stack up across Iron County through midnight Sunday, with northern areas facing up to 6 inches and slick travel developing quickly this afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 12 a.m. Monday for Iron County, including Hurley and the northwestern lands of the Lac du Flambeau Band. Most communities can expect an additional 1 to 2 inches, but persistent lake effect bands may drop between 3 and 6 inches across northern sections of the county.
Road conditions could deteriorate rapidly where heavier bands set up. Highways such as U.S. 2 and Wisconsin 77 may turn snow covered, especially in open and higher terrain. Visibility can change sharply over short distances, with bursts of moderate snow briefly reducing sightlines for drivers.
Travelers should slow down and use extra caution, particularly after sunset when temperatures fall and untreated pavement freezes. Check the latest road conditions through Wisconsin 511 before heading out.
Snow intensity should ease late tonight, but slick spots may linger into early Monday. Additional advisories could be issued if lake effect bands persist longer than expected.
