La Crosse, Wisconsin – Drivers along I-94 and Highway 21 could wake up to snow-covered pavement before sunrise Friday as up to 4 inches of snow falls overnight in Monroe County.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. CST Friday for Monroe County, including Tomah and Sparta. Forecasters expect total snowfall between 2 and 4 inches, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph.
Snow will begin after midnight and intensify toward daybreak, creating reduced visibility and slick stretches during the height of the Friday morning commute. Gusty winds may blow snow across open areas, especially along I-94 between Tomah and Sparta, leading to brief whiteout conditions in rural stretches.
Local road crews are expected to treat major highways, but secondary roads, bridges, and overpasses will become slippery first. Officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check 511wi.gov for the latest road conditions before heading out.
The advisory expires at 9 a.m. Friday, though patchy blowing snow could linger into late morning as winds gradually ease.
