Green Bay, Wisconsin – A light glaze of ice could quickly turn roads slick across central and northeast Wisconsin tonight, with the highest window hitting just before the Thursday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a 30 to 50 percent chance of light icing is expected between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday. A dusting up to half an inch of snow may fall across north-central and far northeast Wisconsin, but the greater concern is a thin glaze of ice forming on untreated surfaces.

Cities including Wausau, Stevens Point, Appleton, and Green Bay sit in the highest risk zone, where probabilities of icing range from 30 to 40 percent. Even a light glaze can create hazardous travel, especially on bridges, overpasses, and less-traveled roads.

Parking lots and sidewalks may also become slippery overnight, increasing the risk of falls during early morning hours. Drivers should reduce speeds, allow extra stopping distance, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.

Conditions improve after sunrise Thursday as temperatures gradually rise, but lingering slick spots may persist into mid-morning. Additional advisories could be issued if icing becomes more widespread overnight.
