Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin – Travel across Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula could become impossible within hours as a powerful winter storm piles up feet of snow before blizzard conditions intensify Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Door County until 10 a.m. Sunday, with snowfall totals expected to reach 20 to 30 inches. Winds will strengthen through the morning before gusting near 50 mph, triggering full blizzard conditions beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m. Monday.

Communities including Sturgeon Bay, Fish Creek, and Sister Bay could see rapid snow accumulation along with severe blowing and drifting snow. Open roadways along Wisconsin Highway 42 and Highway 57 are especially vulnerable to whiteout conditions as winds push snow across lanes.

Farther south along the Lake Michigan shoreline, Manitowoc and Kewaunee counties remain under a Winter Storm Warning until 7 p.m. Sunday. Snow and sleet totals between 10 and 18 inches are expected, along with ice accumulations between one and two tenths of an inch. Blizzard conditions there begin at 7 p.m. Sunday and also last through 4 p.m. Monday.

Officials warn that travel may become extremely dangerous or impossible as visibility drops and snow drifts block roadways. Heavy snow and strong winds may also snap tree limbs and lead to scattered power outages.

Residents are urged to delay travel and prepare for prolonged hazardous conditions. Anyone who must drive should carry blankets, food, water, and emergency supplies.

Blizzard conditions are expected to persist across northeast Wisconsin into Monday afternoon, with the Monday morning commute likely to be severely impacted. Additional updates and road closures can be monitored by dialing 511 for Wisconsin travel conditions.
