MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A sharp December chill has settled over southern Wisconsin this morning, with the bitter wind cutting across Lake Michigan and frost glinting on parked cars. Temperatures sit near the low teens, and wind chills are below zero for many inland areas. Roads are dry but icy patches remain possible where earlier flurries refroze overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a quick-moving low-pressure system is expected to bring light snow to much of southern Wisconsin late Saturday into early Sunday. Most areas, including Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Racine Counties, could see a dusting to two inches of accumulation — enough to coat highways and reduce visibility during late-day travel. The heaviest bands are likely near the I-94 corridor Saturday night.
Friday stays mostly cloudy and cold, with highs near 27°F and steady southwest winds gusting to 25 mph. Conditions improve briefly Saturday morning before clouds thicken and light snow develops from west to east. By Sunday morning, the system exits, leaving behind frigid air once again. Highs Sunday will struggle to reach 25°F, and wind chills could dip below -10°F early in the day.
Drivers should plan extra time for travel Saturday evening, keep winter emergency kits in vehicles, and clear sidewalks promptly before refreeze sets in. Looking ahead, long-range models hint at additional lake-effect snow potential across the Great Lakes from December 11–17 — a reminder that early-season winter travel challenges are only beginning.
