Green Bay, Wisconsin – Drivers across much of Wisconsin should prepare for increasingly slick and snow-covered roads Sunday afternoon into early Monday as a fast-moving winter system spreads a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain across the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for central, north-central, and northeast Wisconsin beginning Sunday afternoon and lasting into the early hours of Monday. Light snow and sleet combined with pockets of freezing rain are expected to create hazardous travel, especially during the evening and overnight hours.
Snow totals will vary by location, with 1 to 3 inches possible across Vilas, Oneida, and Langlade counties and up to 2 to 4 inches in parts of Florence, Forest, Marinette, and Oconto counties. Door County could see the highest totals, with 3 to 5 inches of snow along with a light glaze of ice. Elsewhere, lighter snowfall amounts combined with thin ice accumulations will still be enough to make roads slippery.
Cities including Wausau, Antigo, Rhinelander, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Manitowoc, and Sturgeon Bay are expected to see deteriorating travel conditions as precipitation spreads east through the afternoon and evening.
While snowfall is expected to taper early Monday, untreated roads may remain slick into the morning commute. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check 511 road conditions before traveling. Additional advisories remain possible if conditions worsen overnight.
