Milwaukee, WI – A winter weather system is bringing freezing rain and light snow to southern Wisconsin overnight. Peak chances for precipitation are between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday, potentially creating hazardous road conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Milwaukee/Sullivan, freezing drizzle and snow may mix with rain, especially in eastern Wisconsin. Areas that dropped below freezing last night are most at risk for slick roads. Despite minimal accumulation, icy patches could develop where freezing rain occurs.

Temperatures will begin rising after 5 a.m. Wednesday, reducing the chance for additional ice accumulation. Motorists should use caution, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

Cities like Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Waukesha will see the highest precipitation chances overnight. Madison and areas farther west may experience more rain than snow.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and allow extra travel time for the morning commute. Drive carefully and watch for black ice, especially in areas prone to freezing conditions.
