Ozaukee County, WI – Law enforcement agencies across Wisconsin are reminding drivers to follow the state’s “Move Over” law as part of National Move Over Day, observed today. The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office is joining local partners to emphasize roadway safety for emergency and maintenance crews.

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, drivers must move over for all emergency response vehicles stopped on the roadside — including squad cars, fire trucks, ambulances, tow trucks, and highway department vehicles. When changing lanes isn’t possible, motorists are urged to slow down and remain alert for personnel entering or exiting the scene.

The department thanked the Ozaukee County Highway Department and Cedarburg Fire Department for collaborating on this year’s Move Over campaign, aimed at preventing roadside crashes and injuries.

Wisconsin’s Move Over law is designed to protect first responders, highway workers, and stranded motorists. Violations can lead to fines and increased penalties if emergency workers are harmed.

“Help us all get home safe — because when you move over, everyone goes home,” the Sheriff’s Office said in its message.
