Green Bay, Wis. – Strong thunderstorms packing damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes are expected to impact much of Wisconsin late Friday into early Saturday, with the most intense activity likely in northern counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, scattered storms will develop through this evening, with a more organized and potentially severe complex sweeping across northern Wisconsin after midnight. The greatest threats include 60+ mph wind gusts, large hail, and a few tornadoes. Torrential rain may also lead to localized flooding.
Communities from Wausau to Rhinelander and Crandon lie in the Level 2 (Slight Risk) zone for severe weather. Central areas including Green Bay, Appleton, and Stevens Point remain under a marginal risk but could still experience damaging winds and lightning. Travel on highways including U.S. 51 and State Highway 29 may be hazardous overnight.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and monitor alerts. NOAA Weather Radios and emergency apps are recommended due to the nighttime nature of the threat.
Storms should exit by mid-morning Saturday, followed by rising heat and humidity into the weekend. Additional advisories may be issued if storm tracks shift.
