Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Scattered thunderstorms and dangerous heat are lining up for Milwaukee and much of southern Wisconsin just in time for the holiday weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Hazardous Weather Outlook is in effect through next Wednesday for southeast Wisconsin. Isolated storms are possible Thursday evening, with greater chances arriving late Saturday into Sunday. Heat index values could reach the upper 90s on Independence Day and Saturday, prompting a summer safety alert for outdoor plans and road travel.

Drivers on I-94, I-43, and Highway 18 should be alert for sudden downpours and wind gusts during any storms, especially late Saturday into Saturday night. Gusty winds may accompany the stronger cells, and brief flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

Friday, July 4th will bring a high near 88°F with a 30% chance of storms before 11 a.m., followed by partly sunny skies — still hot and humid. By Saturday, conditions intensify with highs near 91°F and elevated heat index levels. Hydrate frequently and limit extended outdoor exposure, particularly for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.

Storm chances return Saturday night into Sunday afternoon, when heavy rainfall and isolated thunder may impact community events and lakefront travel.

Warnings remain possible through early next week. Expect updated advisories if rainfall totals climb or winds intensify.
