Milwaukee, Wis. – Southeastern Wisconsin is bracing for multiple rounds of heavy rain and storms Monday, raising the risk of flash flooding and damaging winds across the region. The heaviest rainfall is expected from late morning through tonight, with rainfall rates topping 2 inches per hour in some storms.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, the likelihood of at least half an inch of rain is near 100% across much of southern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Madison, and Waukesha. Isolated areas could see 2 to 3 inches of rain before conditions ease by early Tuesday morning. Urban locations and low-lying areas are at the greatest risk for localized flooding.
Road travel may become hazardous along I-94, I-41, and other major routes, especially during the evening commute. Drivers are urged to slow down and avoid flooded intersections. Officials also advise charging electronic devices and preparing for possible brief power outages if stronger storms develop.
Storms may also bring gusty winds capable of causing tree damage or downed power lines. The main window for severe weather will be this afternoon into early evening.
Flash flood watches remain in effect through tonight, with more advisories possible if storms persist into Tuesday.
