La Crosse, Wis. – Urban and street flooding may hit parts of western Wisconsin tonight and into Saturday morning as repeated rounds of heavy rain move through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a Level 2 risk is in place for excessive rainfall, especially across counties south of Interstate 90, including La Crosse, Richland, Vernon, and Monroe. Thunderstorms are expected to drop significant rainfall, and if storms stall or retrace paths, flooding could become widespread.
Cities like Prairie du Chien, Viroqua, and Sparta may see several inches of rain in a short period, leading to ponding on roads and swollen creeks. Officials warn that flash flooding is possible, especially in low-lying areas and urban streets with poor drainage.
Motorists are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads and to stay alert for emergency alerts overnight. “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” remains critical advice as darkness can obscure high water.
Rain is expected to continue through early Saturday afternoon, with another update expected by late morning. Additional flood advisories could be issued depending on storm development.
