Milwaukee, WI – Heavy rainfall is set to drench southern Wisconsin late Monday and into Monday night, raising the risk of localized flash flooding and swollen rivers across the region. Some communities may see more than 2 inches of rain before conditions improve Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, there is a 70% to 85% chance of at least half an inch of rainfall across much of the state, including Madison, Milwaukee, and Fond du Lac. Heaviest totals are most likely in south-central Wisconsin, where the chance for more than an inch of rain stands near 50%.
Travelers should prepare for ponding on highways, particularly along I-94 near Milwaukee and I-39 around Portage, where storm drains may struggle to keep up. While widespread flooding is not expected, low-lying basins and urban areas could see fast-rising water, especially if multiple rounds of storms track over the same location.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and monitor river levels into Tuesday. Forecasters warn that additional advisories may be issued if rainfall intensifies overnight.
