La Crosse, Wisconsin – Strong thunderstorms could bring large hail and damaging winds to parts of western Wisconsin and northeast Iowa today, with La Crosse in the zone of potential impact through Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, scattered showers will give way to thunderstorms between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., with a risk of one or two isolated severe storms developing late this afternoon or evening. The primary hazard is large hail, with winds strong enough to cause minor damage also possible. The affected region includes La Crosse, Monroe, and Vernon counties in Wisconsin, and stretches into northeast Iowa.

Localized downpours may briefly reduce visibility, especially along Highway 14 and I-90, and residents are urged to use caution during the evening commute. Outdoor activities should be reconsidered or moved indoors, especially with the threat of hail and lightning. Emergency managers are not currently activating storm spotters, but reports of severe weather are encouraged.

While Thursday brings more rain and a 90% chance of storms in the morning, the National Weather Service does not currently expect those to be severe. Another round of thunderstorms is possible Sunday into early next week.
