Milwaukee, WI – A strong weather system is set to move through Wisconsin on Wednesday, bringing a rapid transition from rain to snow along with gusty winds. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Milwaukee warns of potentially hazardous travel conditions as the storm moves from northwest to southeast.

According to the NWS, the storm will begin with rain during the day Wednesday, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures that will cause rain to change to snow by Wednesday evening. Areas such as Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, and Madison could see wind gusts reaching 33 mph, further reducing visibility on roads.

The likelihood of accumulating snow varies by region, with parts of central and northeastern Wisconsin having a 40-60% chance of receiving at least two inches of snow. Cities including Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha have lower chances but may still experience slick roads and freezing conditions overnight into Thursday morning.

Residents should prepare for hazardous travel, especially on untreated roads. Wind gusts are expected to remain strong into Thursday, making for difficult driving conditions. The NWS advises monitoring updates and allowing extra travel time, particularly during the Wednesday evening commute.

Stay tuned for further updates as the storm approaches.
