Janesville, WI – Snowmobile enthusiasts in Rock County will have two opportunities this fall to complete the state-required Snowmobile Safety Education Course.

According to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, registration is now open for the 2025 classes, which will be held on Tuesday, October 28, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Both sessions will take place at the Rock County Sheriff’s Office Public Meeting Room, located at 200 East U.S. Highway 14 in Janesville.

Wisconsin law requires that anyone born on or after January 1, 1985, must complete a Snowmobile Safety Education Course in order to legally operate a snowmobile on public land. Students must be at least 12 years old or turn 12 shortly after completing the class.

The fee for the course is $10, due at the first session. Students under 18 must attend with a parent or guardian. A Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) customer ID number is required to register.

The Sheriff’s Office offers two snowmobile safety classes each year, one in late fall and one in early winter, to prepare riders for the peak snowmobiling season. Both sessions listed this year are mandatory to graduate.

For more information or to register, visit the Rock County Sheriff’s Office website or call the Wisconsin DNR Hotline at 1-888-936-7463.
