Colby, Wis. – A tornado packing 120 mph winds touched down near Colby Wednesday evening, one of three confirmed tornadoes that hit Clark County during a fast-moving severe weather event.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, an EF2 tornado struck Colby from 5:21 to 5:28 p.m. CDT on May 15, cutting a 4.5-mile path through Clark and Marathon counties. The twister reached 150 yards in width but caused no injuries or deaths.
Earlier in the evening, an EF1 tornado briefly touched down near Christie at 4:47 p.m., producing 95 mph winds along a short half-mile path. Just minutes later, a weaker EF0 tornado tracked 2.27 miles near Loyal with peak winds of 75 mph.
Residents across central Wisconsin reported downed trees and minor structural damage. Emergency officials confirmed no fatalities or serious injuries, though cleanup operations are underway.
Drivers should remain alert for debris on rural routes including County Roads K and N, and residents are urged to report any damage not yet documented by survey crews.
All three tornadoes developed within a 40-minute window, underscoring the speed and intensity of Wednesday’s storms. The National Weather Service said additional updates may follow as assessments continue.
