Madison, Wisconsin – A 6-8 inch snowfall could impact northern Wisconsin Feb. 18-22, with mixed precipitation possible statewide.
According to the National Weather Service 6-10 Day Outlook issued Thursday, Feb. 12, above-normal precipitation is favored across Wisconsin during the Feb. 18-22 period. Snowfall totals between 6 and 8 inches are possible across northern and central parts of the state, with lighter but impactful accumulations extending toward the Fox Valley and western counties.
Southern Wisconsin, including Madison and Milwaukee, could see periods of rain changing to a rain and snow mix. Sleet cannot be ruled out in transition zones where surface temperatures hover near freezing.
The broader pattern supports accumulating snow across Minnesota and parts of the Upper Midwest, while mixed precipitation extends into Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, northern Indiana, northern Ohio, northern Pennsylvania, New York and Vermont.
Farther south, primarily rain is expected across portions of Missouri, southern Illinois, southern Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia.
The temperature outlook favors above-normal readings across much of the eastern United States, increasing the likelihood of fluctuating precipitation types across southern Wisconsin.
For commuters and college students traveling after President’s Day week, shifting snow-to-rain transitions could create slushy roads and variable driving conditions, especially during morning and evening hours.
The National Weather Service emphasizes that 6-10 day outlooks reflect probabilities rather than exact totals. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts for refined timing and snowfall projections as the period approaches.
