DULUTH, Minn. – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will move across northern Minnesota tonight as a cold front sweeps through the Arrowhead and into north-central Wisconsin. Drivers should also be alert for patches of fog Thursday morning where rain falls overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, storms are not expected to be severe, but some communities may see heavy downpours before skies clear. Behind the front, drier weather will settle in through the weekend, but temperatures will tumble.
Lows Thursday night are forecast to dip into the upper 30s in cities such as Ely, Hibbing, and Grand Rapids, with frost possible in sheltered areas. A frost advisory may be issued for late Thursday into Friday morning, especially for northern St. Louis and Lake counties. The chill could affect gardens and late-season crops, and residents are encouraged to cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors.
After the cold start, temperatures will rebound into the 70s by the weekend with sunny skies expected through Sunday, providing a welcome stretch of dry weather after tonight’s rain.
