Wisconsin – Sunshine fades quickly as a shifting spring system lines up rain, gusty winds, and possible thunderstorms across La Crosse by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, clouds increase today with highs near 56°F before showers develop later, bringing light rainfall into the evening and setting up a wetter pattern into the weekend.

Roads may turn damp by late day, especially along I-90 and Highway 35. Keep headlights on and allow extra stopping distance. Temperatures drop near 34°F later, which raises a low-end flash-freeze concern on bridges if surfaces cool quickly.

Friday offers a brief break with sunshine and highs near 55°F. It’s a window to reset before conditions turn more active again.

By Saturday afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms begin developing, with gusts reaching 18 mph. Rain chances climb to 80% by Saturday night, and conditions turn wetter and more persistent.

Sunday brings the biggest impact. Showers and thunderstorms become likely by late morning, with gusts up to 28 mph. Expect reduced visibility, wet pavement, and slower travel across La Crosse, Onalaska, and nearby Mississippi River crossings.

Meteorologists now tracking additional rounds of storms into early next week. Rain chances continue Monday and Tuesday, with warmer air pushing highs toward the upper 70s before cooling slightly again.

Plan ahead if traveling this weekend. Keep rain gear ready and monitor changing conditions, especially during heavier downpours.
