La Crosse, WI – Dense fog is causing travel difficulties across portions of southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, and parts of western Wisconsin this Saturday morning. Visibility in some areas is reduced to one-quarter mile or less, according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse.
The weather agency reported that fog developed overnight along river valleys and low-lying areas, including the Wisconsin River, and could linger through mid-morning before gradually dissipating as the sun rises.
According to the National Weather Service, drivers should expect rapidly changing conditions. Patches of fog can significantly lower visibility, creating hazards for morning travelers. Motorists are urged to use low-beam headlights, slow down, and leave extra distance between vehicles.
Cities most affected include Rochester, Minnesota; Charles City, Iowa; and La Crosse, Wisconsin, where drivers may encounter sudden visibility drops along highways and rural roads.
The dense fog is expected to improve by late morning as temperatures rise, but those heading out early should allow extra travel time.
