Duluth, MN – A winter storm continues to impact northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, bringing heavy snow and strong winds that are expected to last until late Wednesday night. Authorities warn of hazardous travel conditions, with whiteout conditions possible due to blowing and drifting snow.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. CST for Iron County, Wisconsin, and until midnight for Dickinson, Iron, and Gogebic counties in Michigan. Additional snow accumulations of up to three inches are expected in some areas, with winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

Officials caution that visibility may drop below a quarter-mile in certain locations, creating treacherous driving conditions. The evening commute is expected to be heavily impacted, particularly in Hurley, WI, and Ironwood, MI. Authorities urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to keep emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, in their vehicles.

In Vilas, Florence, Forest, and Northern Marinette counties in Wisconsin, snow accumulation may reach an additional inch, with winds gusting up to 40 mph. The storm is expected to weaken overnight, but lingering snow showers and blowing snow may continue to cause reduced visibility into Thursday morning.
