Green Bay, Wis. – Boaters heading out on Lake Winnebago or Lake Michigan this Memorial Day can expect near-perfect conditions, with light winds and gentle waves under mostly sunny skies.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, winds will remain variable around 5 knots early Monday before shifting northeast or east at 5 to 10 knots later in the day. Wave heights are expected to stay at 2 feet or less across the Bay of Green Bay, Lake Winnebago, and nearshore Lake Michigan waters from Washington Island to Sheboygan.

Recreational traffic may be high, but the calm marine setup should offer safe and enjoyable boating for most vessels. Mariners are still urged to wear life jackets, monitor for changing weather, and check updated marine advisories before departure.

Conditions will be especially favorable within 5 nautical miles of shore, with minimal chop. This marks one of the more tranquil Memorial Day marine forecasts in recent years for northeastern Wisconsin.

No additional marine alerts are expected Monday, but boaters should continue monitoring NWS updates as winds increase slightly by evening.
