Fitchburg, WI – A Fitchburg man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly stealing a vehicle and attempting to evade police by hiding inside a boat behind a building, authorities said.

According to the Fitchburg Police Department, officers responded around 8 p.m. to a reported disturbance on the 2800 block of Eggiman Road. Upon arrival, officers identified a known suspect fleeing from the scene on foot. As officers pursued, the man reportedly ran toward a nearby fast-food restaurant and stole a running, unoccupied vehicle from the parking lot.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but were unsuccessful as the suspect allegedly fled the area. A short time later, the vehicle was found abandoned. Madison Police officers responding to assist observed the suspect nearby and initiated a second foot chase.

Authorities said community members helped guide officers to the suspect’s location. Police eventually found the man hiding in a boat that had been parked behind a building. He was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Dylan Kaioula of Fitchburg, was booked into the Dane County Jail. He faces multiple charges including taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent, fleeing from an officer, probation violation, resisting arrest, and an outstanding warrant.

The Fitchburg Police Department expressed appreciation to the Madison Police Department, Dane County Sheriff’s Office, and community members for their assistance in the arrest.
