La Crosse, Wisconsin – Drivers across southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa could encounter sudden downpours this evening as scattered thunderstorms develop south of Interstate 90 through 10 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, showers and storms are forming across areas including La Crosse, Prairie du Chien, and Decorah, with the greatest coverage expected south of I-90. While storms will remain scattered, pockets of heavy rain could quickly reduce visibility and create slick road conditions.
Communities along Highway 14, Highway 61, and rural routes in Vernon and Crawford counties may see brief but intense rainfall, especially during the evening commute hours. Storm movement will push activity eastward, bringing shifting impacts across southwest Wisconsin into western portions of the state.
Localized heavier cells could lead to minor ponding on roads and reduced traction, particularly in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Boaters on the Mississippi River should also be prepared for sudden weather changes and seek shelter if storms approach.
Residents are encouraged to monitor radar, limit travel during heavier downpours, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions. The storm threat diminishes after 10 p.m., though additional updates may follow if stronger cells develop.
