New Munster, Wis. – Flooding along the Fox River near New Munster will persist into early next week, with minor but disruptive impacts for communities in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, and Lake County, Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, the Fox River crested at 11.7 feet overnight, just above the official flood stage of 11.0 feet. Water is already in the yards of homes in Salem Lakes and the Town of Wheatland, with several inches of water covering portions of 77th Street. The river is forecast to slowly fall back below flood stage by early Monday morning.

Residents near Riverside Drive and Shorewood Drive should expect standing water in low-lying areas through the weekend. Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roadways, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.

While impacts are currently classified as minor, local emergency management officials warn conditions could worsen if additional rainfall develops upstream. The current crest matches a 2019 high-water mark in the same area.

The flood warning remains in effect until Monday morning, with the next National Weather Service update due Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
