Whitewater, WI – A two-vehicle crash on US Highway 12 in Walworth County sent two people to the hospital Monday evening, including one who was flown by medical helicopter.
According to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 5 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Highway 12 and County Highway P in the Town of Whitewater. Deputies said a 2007 Peterbilt dump truck collided with a 1959 Ford Ranchero, forcing law enforcement to close the roadway in all directions while the scene was secured.
Authorities reported that Sherry Grossman, 56, a passenger in the Ranchero, was airlifted to a Wisconsin hospital for treatment of her injuries. The driver of the Ranchero, Peter Grossman, 61, was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. The dump truck’s driver, Colton Bentheimer, 27, was treated at the scene by EMS and released.
Deputies said an initial investigation determined the dump truck was making a left-hand turn at the intersection and pulled into the path of the Ranchero, which had the right of way. No fatalities were reported. The Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit is continuing its investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation for the agencies that assisted at the scene, including Whitewater Fire/EMS, La Grange Fire/EMS, Med Flight, Whitewater Police, the Whitewater Public Works Department, and the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office.
