Milwaukee, Wisconsin – A dangerous stretch of triple-digit heat is settling over Wisconsin through Monday, prompting health concerns, potential power strain, and warnings to stay indoors.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, Extreme Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories are in effect from Saturday afternoon through Monday evening across southeast and south-central Wisconsin. Temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s, but heat indices are expected to soar between 100°F and 105°F due to high humidity and southwest winds.
Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Madison are among the cities facing the most oppressive conditions, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours. The heat index in Janesville could hit 104°F by 3 p.m. Sunday. Outdoor workers and residents without air conditioning are urged to take precautions, including staying in shaded areas, hydrating frequently, and checking on vulnerable individuals.
Road crews, job sites, and daycares are advised to implement heat safety plans, as prolonged exposure could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. This marks the most significant heat wave of the season so far and may strain local energy grids.
Extreme heat conditions are expected to last through at least Monday night, with additional advisories possible into Tuesday.
