Madison, WI – Wisconsin skywatchers are in for a treat as the Northern Lights are projected to be visible Monday night into Tuesday morning. The aurora borealis, usually confined to higher latitudes, could light up Wisconsin skies thanks to a strong geomagnetic storm.
NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center forecasts geomagnetic activity reaching a Kp index of 6-7, high enough for auroras to be seen as far south as Wisconsin. The ideal viewing window is from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Central Time, with clear skies improving visibility.
The aurora borealis produces stunning light displays in green, pink, and red hues, resulting from solar particles interacting with Earth’s atmosphere. Residents are advised to find locations away from city lights for the best view. Staying updated on local weather conditions and using real-time aurora tracking tools can help in witnessing this rare event.
