La Crosse, Wis. – Cold-sensitive plants could suffer damage overnight as scattered frost develops across central and north-central Wisconsin, especially in areas north of Interstate 94.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, patchy frost is expected late Thursday night into early Friday morning as temperatures dip into the low-to-mid 30s. The advisory affects cities including Eau Claire, Wausau, and Marshfield.

Gardeners and homeowners are urged to cover tender plants or bring them indoors where possible. While not a widespread freeze, even light frost can impact blooming flowers and spring vegetables. Rural areas and low-lying spots are most at risk due to colder air settling.

This late-May chill isn’t unprecedented but comes as many have already planted summer gardens. Residents should monitor local temperatures and take precautions tonight, especially in exposed areas.

Additional alerts are unlikely, but a broader warm-up is expected by the weekend.
