MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Sunshine returns to southeast Wisconsin just in time for kids heading back to school after the Columbus Day holiday, but cooler air will follow by midweek as a fall pattern takes hold.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, scattered showers may brush parts of Milwaukee County and communities along I-94 early Monday before drier, brighter skies dominate by Tuesday. Afternoon highs will hover in the lower 60s to near 65 through midweek, about ten degrees cooler than the weekend. Winds shifting north will keep Lake Michigan’s shoreline breezy and a bit cooler.

Drivers planning early commutes along I-43 or I-94 should expect some patchy wet pavement Monday morning before roads dry and skies clear. The NWS says a slight chance of additional light rain may return Tuesday night, mainly north of Waukesha and Sheboygan Counties.

By Wednesday, high pressure will settle over southern Wisconsin, delivering crisp fall air and bright sunshine—ideal for outdoor cleanup, pumpkin patch visits, or leaf viewing across area parks. Temperatures will moderate later in the week, setting up a calm and pleasant stretch heading into next weekend.

Residents are advised to check morning forecasts before travel and keep light jackets handy for early bus stops or evening walks. No frost or freeze concerns are expected yet, but cooler nights in the upper 40s could make it feel like true October weather is here.
