Fond du Lac, WI – The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was involved in two separate vehicle pursuits on Wednesday, hours apart, that resulted in drug seizures, one arrest, and pending criminal charges for others still at large.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the first chase began around 2:44 p.m. when a deputy attempted a traffic stop in a Walmart parking lot in Fond du Lac for a traffic signal violation and equipment issue. Authorities said the driver fled, leading to a brief pursuit before the suspect vehicle was found abandoned behind a Pick ’n Save on West Johnson Street.
The incident prompted a temporary lockdown of nearby Sabish Middle School until a K9 unit successfully tracked down a 28-year-old passenger. Deputies reported recovering a discarded backpack containing about 2.3 pounds of marijuana. The driver remains at large.
Later that night, at approximately 11:42 p.m., deputies attempted another traffic stop near Main and Division streets in Rosendale after determining the vehicle’s registered owner did not have a valid license. The driver allegedly sped off, ignored stop signs, and eventually crashed in a ditch at Highway 23 and Rose-Eld Road.
Deputies said the suspects fled the vehicle before officers could make contact. Aerial drone searches and K9 tracks were unsuccessful in locating them.
The Sheriff’s Office stated that both incidents remain under investigation. The Fond du Lac Police Department, Ripon Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and drone operators assisted in the efforts.
